Vintage White Drum Table with Gorgeous Detail

I had the honor of painting an antique drum table for a special person who’s like a second mom to me.  She’s the sweetest lady you’ll ever meet and happens to be mom to one of my very best friends.  I’ve pretty much adopted the entire family over the years since the rest of the clan is pretty fun too!

The girls were spicing up mom’s condo and wanted to paint a couple tables.

The first table she wanted painted was an antique drum table that was made a long time ago right here in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

It started out like this.

I busted out CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White and went to town, accenting the pretty detail in the pedastal with Pittsburgh Gray (two of my favorite colors, I might add:)

I had a blast accentuating the leaf detail on the pedestal.
I also had fun doing the rub-a-dub rub to distress the edges exposing the dark wood underneath.
While I was painting this, Liz painted her mom’s wicker coffee table in Vintage White then dry brushed over it with Omaha Ochre.  She then distressed it here and there to give it that shabby look.  It was her first time using CeCe Caldwell’s Paint and she instantly became a master of distressing with a wet rag.  Great job Liz!
What a difference from that dark wicker ~ Brightens up the whole place!
As usual, I hauled my table around the yard to shoot some photos.  Getting sick of all my weeds yet?
I couldn’t resist capturing some of my creeping phlox.  They only are in bloom for a like a blink.
I’ve come up with the conclusion that it’s hard to photograph white; it’s so reflective in the sun…  but too shadowed in the shade and I don’t care for indoor, studio shots.  That’s not how I roll.
Here she is nestled between two comfy chairs in her new home:)

Come on over ~ the coffee’s on and the food is even better!

Thanx again for letting me to this fun project for you!!  Enjoy:)

  1. Beautiful Thinking of doign this to my grandmother’s drum table (now mine). Did you just mask off the feet? Those feet perplex me! :D

  2. Gorgeous, gorgeous! Love how the details of the table base really stand out now with the accents! Another great job on your part, but then that is a trademark of yours!. Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration at Sunday’s Best Par.tay!

  11. Hi Shelly, I just stumbled across your blog . . . wow your furniture re-dos are amazing. You really do stunning work. This must be the week for re-dos, I’ve been working on three projects this week for my back porch and just finished them today and posted them this evening. You have so many beautiful re-purposed things that it will take a while to go through your archives, but I intend on coming back and doing just that. Please accept my invitation to visit and maybe even follow my blog, too. Your newest follower, Connie :) Have a great weekend.

  12. It looks gorgeous!! I can’t believe it was made right there in Grand Rapids. If I come across a piece that was made there, I am calling you right away.

Love the wicker table too, she did great!

    • Karen, Furniture is what Grand Rapid’s was built on. In the early 1900′s, Grand Rapids was known as “The Furniture Capital of the World”. Lots of furniture history here:)

  13. Ooooh! You’re tempting me….I just seen a table similar to this on Craigslist and was tempted to buy it to paint. This looks wonderful and I love the gray on the carving. Mmmm….

  14. FYI, I just pinned your table and it has 35 repins in about 5 mins! So pretty!

  15. Oh why is it that everyone who does work that I adore is so far away! I live in NY and would not only love to have you paint some things, but would love to buy some of your pieces as well! We just don’t have your talent here. Maybe I need to move there?! Seriously, I wish I could have you do some things for me, you are so talented and my aesthetic and yours seems to be very similar. I love your posts and seeing what you have done! Great job with this table, it looks so much nicer now.

  16. Just gorgeous! The table and the flowers!

  17. Great idea:)

  18. Shelly, I love how your drum table turned out. I recently painted two different drum tables. I love the shape & detail. I can’t resist putting a clock face on the top. It’s my obsession. Nice job! Dee from My Painted Stuff

  19. I love this makeover! I got my paint from you yesterday and I can’t wait to try it out!!

  20. Gorgeous! I love how that leaf accent turned out when you used the 2 colors there.

  1. [...] Vintage White This is a creamy vintage white, doesn’t show well in the photo.  For some reason it looks pink-ish, but it’s not.  A beautiful creamy white and a definite go-to color.  See entire transformation of this piece HERE. [...]

I'd love to hear from you ;)
